All licensed home child care in Ontario is governed by:

By signing the MHCC Provider Agreement, you commit to:
- - Operating in compliance with all legislation and regulations
- - Upholding MHCC’s internal policies and procedures
- - Allowing regular inspections and monitoring visits
Non-compliance may result in corrective action, suspension, or termination.
3. Pathway to Becoming a Provider with MHCC
- Application & Screening – Application form, interview, references, policy review.
- Mandatory Requirements – CPR & First Aid, PVSC, Health Assessment, Insurance.
- Preparing Your Home – Safety, sanitation, fire code, childproofing.
- Inspection & Approval – MHCC Consultant inspection and compliance checklist.
- Provider Agreement – Signed contract outlining responsibilities and obligations.
- Placement of Children – Ratios observed, monitoring visits, and support from MHCC.

5. Professional Training & Development
MHCC values continuous learning. Providers must maintain mandatory certifications and participate in ongoing training. Examples:
- - CPR & First Aid Certification (mandatory)
- - Annual MHCC policy refresher training
- - Food Handler Certification (recommended)
- - Child development workshops
- - Cultural inclusion and diversity training
MHCC provides access to workshops, curriculum resources, and professional development.
6. Insurance & Liability
All providers must carry:
- - General Liability Insurance (minimum $2 million coverage)
- - Homeowner’s Insurance Rider acknowledging home child care
- - Vehicle Insurance Update if transporting children
Proof of insurance must be submitted annually to MHCC.
7. Administration & Recordkeeping
Providers must maintain accurate documentation, including:
- - Daily attendance logs
- - Child information files (emergency contacts, health info, consents)
- - Accident/Incident Reports (signed by parents)
- - Serious Occurrence Reports (submitted to MHCC immediately)
- - Fire drill and emergency drill logs
- - Copies of training and certifications
MHCC supplies templates and forms to ensure consistency.
8. Provider Expectations at MHCC
- - Professionalism and integrity in all interactions
- - Confidentiality of child and family information
- - Clear communication with families and MHCC
- - Reliability in schedules and availability
- - Commitment to inclusive, safe, and child-centred care
- - Engagement in feedback, training, and professional growth
Scenario Example: If a child becomes ill, the provider must isolate the child, contact the parent, notify MHCC if communicable, and document the incident.
9. Support from MHCC
MHCC provides comprehensive support to providers:
